Nationally known performers The Gin Blossoms and Edwin McCain will headline the first Depot District Music Fest on April 8, the City of Lexington announced. The event will take place from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. at the Breeden Insurance Amphitheater in the Depot District.
Other performers will include The Lilly Brothers, The Ultimate Eagles Tribute Band-On The Border, The Steppin’ Stones and Holy Ghost Tent Revival.
Located in the historic Depot District of uptown Lexington between Third and Fourth avenues, the Depot District Music Fest will be the first concert held in the recently constructed and named amphitheater.
In April 2016, Jill and Mark Breeden of Breeden Insurance Services donated $200,000 for the amphitheater’s construction. The gift was in support of the city’s mission to construct and develop the state-of-the-art stage and amphitheater with plans for future development in the surrounding area.
As part of the gift agreement, the city agreed to allow indefinite naming rights to Breeden Insurance.
Lexington City manager Alan Carson said in a written statement that he was eager to see the first event to be held in the amphitheater.
“We are extremely excited to have this talented lineup of performers coming to Lexington to help us open the new Breeden Insurance Amphitheater,” Carson said. “Being able to see six bands in one day, including The Gin Blossoms and Edwin McCain, is such a treat for our city. We look forward to having folks from all over come and see what makes Lexington special.”
